I know there are people new to DW who're going to find the task of adjusting to the platform a bit daunting, so I've compiled some information and constructed some forms to make things easier.

Dreamwidth FAQ
What is a Cut and how do I use it?
What HTML tags can I use on Dreamwidth?
What are tags?

How to: Post a Fanfic

First of all, you go to post. You'll find that beneath your username, which is on the right side of your screen. You'll be presented with something like this:

You'll want to select Post to: and change that to Stancest, otherwise your post will only show up in your journal.

This next part isn't strictly necessary, but if you're like me and prefer to use a form rather than constructing one for yourself each time, you're welcome to it.

Make sure you're in HTML before you proceed. In the Subject: section you'll want to put Fic - followed by the the Title of your fanfic. You'll then want to copy and past the text from the box below into the body of the form (that's the big white space, in case I'm not being clear).

Once you've done this, press Rich Text so the HTML turns into, well... rich text, and you'll be able to fill in your form.

EXAMPLE

TITLE: This is an Example
RATING: PG
CHARACTERS/PAIRINGS: Stanley Pines, Stanford Pines, Fiddleford Mcgucket. Stancest.
SUMMARY: This is a summary.
WARNINGS: Oh shit blood and guts or something.
A/N: Authors notes go here.

Once you have that part done, paste or type your fic below. You have only then to do the tags and put your work behind a cut.

To put your work behind a cut, select your text and press the cut button, which it highlighted in blue in the above screenshot. It's the lines with the squiggle beneath it. You'll get a popup with the question 'Cut Link Text?'. You can either leave it with 'Read More...' or type in your own Cut text. Once satisfied, press Okay. Your fic will now be behind a cut.

Now, tags! To make browsing easy, tags should be concise. Here's an example:

Fanfiction, Rating: PG, Stanley Pines, Stanford Pines, Fiddleford Mcgucket, Warning: Gore

And then you're done! Submit away! (You maybe want to press preview beforehand just to make sure everything is in place).

How to: Post Fanart

First of all, you go to post. You'll find that beneath your username, which is on the right side of your screen. You'll be presented with something like this:

You'll want to select Post to: and change that to Stancest, otherwise your post will only show up in your journal. First do your Artists Notes. Below that, you'll be posting your art.

Posting on here requires you to upload your art elsewhere. This could be dropbox, tumblr (post privately or to drafts), tinypic, imageshack, or wherever you prefer. I personally prefer tumblr.

Uploading art is very easy. You merely have to click on 'Insert/Edit Image' and paste your url. Your artwork will be pasted into the entry. Once that's done, you can either submit your artwork, or put your artwork under a cut. In the case of large pieces of artwork/multiple images, it's best that a cut is used so to not stretch the page.

The above is from the 'How to: Post a Fanfic', but you get the idea. You first click on your artwork, and then select the Cut button. That's the lines with the squiggle beneath them. You'll get a popup with the question 'Cut Link Text?'. You can either leave it with 'Read More...' or type in your own Cut text. Once satisfied, press Okay. Your art will now be behind a cut.

How to: Crosspost

By Crosspost, I mean 'post to my community as well as my journal'. You'll first want to ensure your Post to: is set to your journal and not the community. Post your work as you would if posting to the community.

You then make a second post, making sure Post to: is set to the Stancest community this time.

In the case of writers: copy and paste information pertaining to your fic (title, warnings, etc) in the body of the form, and then create a link to your personal journal entry. Example:

TITLE: This is an Example
RATING: PG
CHARACTERS/PAIRINGS: Stanley Pines, Stanford Pines, Fiddleford Mcgucket. Stancest.
SUMMARY: This is a summary.
WARNINGS: Oh shit blood and guts or something.
A/N: Authors notes go here.

LINK TO FANFIC IS HERE.

In the case of artists: copy and paste information pertaining to your art (Artists notes; make sure to include any warnings and additional pairings!) in the body of the form, and then create a link to your personal journal entry. Example:

Blah blah blah this is my Stancest art with a side of Fiddlestan. It's on my journal.

LINK TO ARTWORK IS HERE.

You don't need to worry about tags on your journal, but make sure to put the correct tags when posting to the community!
